“Dream big, An!” was the subject line on the email my sister sent, with the attached article about blogging. I confess that I had always thought blogs were created by people who were rather full of themselves, so the article went unread, for awhile.
Then I was unemployed, and reading about blogging sounded far more enticing than spending another MINUTE perusing the job banks. But I still didn’t know what I had worth blogging about. Sure – I can write a facebook post with the rest of ’em, but something on a particular topic, week after week, month after month? I couldn’t imagine what that topic would be.
Enter “the mug”. The mug came from my mom, and has survived the raising of my 2 sons, the exodus of 1 husband, at least 3 moves…perhaps as many as 8 – I don’t remember precisely when Mom gave it to me, the blessing of a new husband, and countless servings of hot chocolate. On days when I’m disgusted with myself for spending hours in Photoshop while the dishes sit in the sink, the mug reminds me that I am not the only one who does this.
“Forget housework…..I’m busy being creative!”
I believe wholeheartedly that there are days when this is warranted….and days when it’s not. This blog will – I hope – be a forum about finding the balance between the ways we all like to create: knitting, crocheting, photography, writing, scrapbooking, or whichever other “craft” eases your mind – and the day-to-day things that are necessary in order for there to be SOME order.
And that, my friends, is my first blog entry! Since it has taken me the better part of the evening to get to this point (interrupted by a lovely walk in this fall evening with my sister), I will say goodnight. ~An “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
